Presentazione

L’interfaccia “For Dx Hunters”, ci permette di operare in tutti i modi digitali: rtty (fsk e afsk), psk31, psk63, cw, FT4, FT8, olivia, sstv, ecc.

Presentation

We thought of creating an interface for radio amateurs for digital transmissions, which was simple but at the same time innovative and in step with the times. To achieve the goal, we made sure that it incorporated the most important functions, in order to satisfy a wide range of users ranging from the novice to the expert operator. The fact of having integrated the audio part gives the product high reliability and remarkable versatility. A further innovation consists in the fact that it has provided for the possibility of managing “mini modules”, intended for radio control (cat control). The cat modules are inserted perpendicular to the board, using the 2.54 pitch strip connectors on the right side.

Technical features

The fact that for some years the serial ports of computers have been replaced by the most modern usb ports, has led us to study new solutions to allow radio amateurs to easily use digital modes even with modern computers. Of course this must be done in a simple way and without particular complications. To satisfy this need, the FT232RL chip came in handy; it is a USB / Serial converter produced by FTDI. Compared to its predecessors, the chip integrates an EEPROM, a clock circuit and the resistances necessary for the USB section, these features allow you to simplify the circuit by reducing its size. We also decided to integrate the “audio part”, in this case we used the excellent PCM2904. It is an audio codec produced by Burr-Brown, equipped with an output and an input both analog and stereo, and a digital output and input (S / PDIF) capable of supporting a stereo PCM signal. The PCM2904 can reach a sampling rate of 48 kHz with a depth of 16 bits and can be powered directly from the USB port. Finally, to allow the two chips to work simultaneously with a single USB, we have created a 4-port HUB, with a TUSB2046. With port 1 of the HUB we pilot the FT232RL; with port 2 the PCM2904, moreover, we have decided to leave ports 3 and 4 free. These ports will allow us to manage optional cards for radio control (cat control) or any other optional card compatible with the USB standard. The “For Dx Hunters” interface allows us to operate in all digital ways: rtty (fsk and afsk), psk31, psk63, cw, FT4, FT8, olivia, sstv, etc.
